A five-day tour of adventurous walking in beautiful Slovak Paradise National Park awaits on this guided adventure. Slovak Paradise is located in the wild, eastern part of the country and is relatively undiscovered. It is home to gorges, canyons and caves, which in turn host cascading waterfalls and flowing rivers. These set the scene for your treks each day. Metal bridges and ladders – sometimes reminiscent of the Italian Via Ferrata – take you across, up and through the different chasms. With its flower-filled meadows, canyons, waterfalls and wildlife-rich landscape, we think Slovak Paradise is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It has some of the best walking for those who want to experience something intrepid and different… Come and find out for yourself!

Why we think this trip is fantastic, and you’ll love it!

  • It’s perfect for people who want something intrepid and different. Walking across ladders and bridges adds a unique dimension to the trek.
  • River canyons, yawning chasms, waterfalls, caves and rock-cut ravines provide a platform for adventurous and exhilarating walking, especially because you can get into their depths on the metal benches.
  • Slovak Paradise is full of flower-filled meadows – you can find up to 74 different rare flowers, orchids and lilies per square metre, which makes Slovak Paradise one of the richest national parks in the world in flora – and its varied terrain is home to amazing fauna, including brown bears, wolves, lynx and eagles.
  • This guided walking holiday is the perfect choice for explorers who prefer to follow an itinerary where all of the organization including transfers and activities is managed by your guide. Our experienced guides are some of the best in the country; they will be there to assist you with anything you might need, giving you advice and organizing your activities on a daily basis so you can fully focus on one thing - enjoying Slovakia´s spectacular mountain scenery!

Map & itinerary

Fly to Krakow. Meet your guide at the airport, then enjoy a group transfer at 4 pm to Levoca located in the foothills of Slovensky Raj, or Slovak Paradise National Park. This transfer takes about 2hours and 45 minutes. The medieval wealth of Levoca, a former royal town, is a jewel of the Spis region, and one of the most visited towns in Slovakia.

The historic main square is a magnet for tourists from all over the world. Here you will find burgher mansions with gabled roofs, the Gothic Church of St. Jacob, with the biggest wooden alter in the world, and beautifully-preserved city walls.

The UNESCO town of Levoca will be your home for the next four nights. In the midst of three national parks, this is the perfect base for your walking adventure.

Slovak Paradise was declared a national park in 1988 and is one of the youngest in Slovakia. It certainly lives up to its name as a paradise for those looking for adventurous walks in a beautiful location. Full of caves, canyons and gorges, the walks here use metal ladders and bridges to cross and climb the gaps.

This morning you transfer 20 min to the heart of Slovak Paradise National Park, where you start your guided walking adventure with a hike through the 13km Prielom Hornádu canyon. A 13km-long section of the river cuts through a gorge, and ladders and bridges take you along and up it. The most visited part is the ´Tomasovsky Vyhlad´ rock gallery, where a 200m limestone rock rises up from the Hornád River and provides stunning views of the park. In the late afternoon you return back to your hotel.

Today’s walk is a fairly adventurous circular route. Starting in a popular tourist centre Podlesok you’ll go through the most romantic gorge in Slovakia, Suchá Belá - a world of cascades, waterfalls and gorges. Walking through the canyon involves crossing exposed sections of the gorge on ladders, steps, bridges and chains. The descent back to Podlesok will be on a relatively easy terrain on comfortable forest roads and paths, and you will stop at the ruins of a Courtesan monastery, hidden in the heart of the National Park.

Today’s walk is a moderately difficult, circular route.

Starting in a small settlement “Píla”, you’ll make your way through the wide river valley of Velkej Bielej vody to narrow Piecky Canyon. The beginning part, on forest roads, is easy, before you head deeper into the valley and towards the gorge. Piecky Canyon is the most attractive part of the hike, and also the most demanding.

The canyon’s tall sides play host to rocky steps and tumbling waterfalls. Below these cascades are pools in the rocks known as ‘ovens’, or Piecky in Slovakian, which is where the canyon gets its name. It’s these geological formations which make today’s walk unique. Secured by ladders, chains and steps, you pass through the massif Velky vodpad waterfall on a 13 m high ladder and continue on to smaller valleys. The last part of the route is on a forest comfortable path, which will lead us once again to Podlesok, from where our driver transfers us back to our hotel.
