This multi-activity holiday for families runs in the summer months and starts in Krakow. Poland’s former capital city has the biggest medieval market square in the world, and from there you’ll head to the Slovakian High Tatras, the greatest mountains of the Carpathians, also known as the “Slovakian Alps”.

This holiday is designed so that all the family can join in, have fun and explore Poland and Slovakia’s cultural and natural beauty in the most exciting way possible. Come and join us on an active, European adventure!

Why we think this trip is fantastic, and you’ll love it!

  • Krakow is an amazing medieval town with so much to see and do.
  • You’ll raft and walk through Slovakia’s most popular National Parks, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and beautiful mountains. This area is home to brown bears, Carpathian wolves and lynx!
  • Experience an easy family rafting adventure on the Dunajec River going through one of the longest canyons in Europe and forming the natural border with Slovakia and Poland.
  • You’ll head up high into the hills on a cable car ride to Skalnate Pleso (1,751m) where you can explore mountain huts and cascading waterfalls on a scenic trek.
  • We’ve also found time to fit in some cultural visits - including a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Levoca with the biggest wooden altar in the world and Spissky Castel, the biggest castle in Central Europe.
  • Finish the tour with a daytrip to Strbske Pleso, Slovakia´s highest village, with a family walk to the Skok waterfall which has some amazing views.

Map & itinerary

You will be met by your tour leader at the hotel for an introductory briefing. Depending on your arrival time, the rest of the day is free to explore Krakow’s attractions.

Hotel Benefis (or similar)

Krakow is a UNESCO World Heritage City, famous for its beautifully preserved Old Town. Explore three kilometres of city walls, 46 spires, countless historical buildings, narrow streets, churches and Europe´s biggest medieval market square.

We’ve included a guided tour before a free afternoon to take a trip to Wieliczka Salt Mine if you want to – it’s a labyrinth of underground caves, tunnels and halls. Alternatively, you could visit the concentration camp of Auschwitz.

Meals included: Breakfast

Leaving Krakow behind, you’ll transfer to the Pieniny National Park and explore the Dunajec Gorge, one of the longest canyons in Europe.

Then it’s time to take to the water for an easy rafting trip down the Dunajec River, which forms a natural border with Slovakia. The scenery is beautiful as it passes you by – although the kids might want to make the most of the chance to splash their parents as the raft idles along!

The waterway takes us to our next destination, Lesnica, where we’ll refuel with lunch in a traditional Slovakian restaurant before transferring to the mountain village of Tatranska Lomnica, your home for the next six nights.

Meals included: Breakfast
Hotel Villa Siesta (or similar)

This morning we’ll take a cable car to Skalnate Pleso (1751m). Look out for Tatra chamois bouncing around on the rocks below!

Take a moment to admire the vista, before we head off on a family-friendly trek to Hrebienok. En-route you’ll visit mountain huts and the cascading waterfalls of Studeny Potok (Cold Creek). As you walk, the guide will keep the kids entertained with fun games and quizzes about the surroundings.

A final funicular ride takes you to Stary Smokovec, the oldest village in the Tatras. From here we’ll take the famous Tatra mountain tram and return back to Tatranska Lomnica.

Meals included: Breakfast
Hotel Villa Siesta (or similar)

A short drive takes us to one of the biggest castles in Central-Eastern Europe, 12th Century Spissky Castle. It used to be the political, administrative, economic and cultural centre of this region, and a local guide will walk you through all of the site’s interesting stories, in a way that’ll bring them to life for the kids.

Next you’ll take a tour of medieval Levoca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the highest wooden altar in the world.

In the afternoon, we’ve included a visit to the water park of AquaCity Poprad located in the foothills of the Tatra Mountains. This award-winning water park is full of water attractions and outdoor and indoor pools, including thermal pools with healing waters and spectacular views of the Tatra mountains. Once everyone’s tired out, we’ll head back to the hotel in the early evening.

Meals included: Breakfast
Hotel Villa Siesta (or similar)

After breakfast we’ll take a mountain tram to Strbske Pleso, Slovakia´s highest village. Strbske Pleso is one of the most popular destinations in the Tatras. Here you will find a jewel of the Tatras - the mountain lake of the same name, which is the starting point of many spectacular walks and treks in the summer. In the winter season the village is a paradise for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing. You’ll also find ski jumps and cable cars operating all year round here.

Today we´ll also explore one of the most beautiful valleys in the Tatras – the Mlynicka Dolina valley. Our 1h:45 min walk will lead us to a 30-metre waterfall, Skok, which will provide a beautiful spot for our packed lunch before we head back to Strbske Pleso.

Meals included: Breakfast
Hotel Villa Siesta (or similar)

Today is a free day so you can spend time as a family. You can explore other areas of the Tatras on foot, or bike. Choose from caves and castles, or hot springs in the foothills of the Tatra Mountains. Your tour leader will be there to help you to arrange your day.
