Krakow may not be Poland’s capital any more, but it’s undoubtedly the country’s cultural hub – so it’s the perfect place to start your Polish-Slovakian winter discovery tour.

Today you´ll meet your guide at your starting hotel in Krakow. Depending on your arrival time there might be time for an introductory walk to the old town.

After breakfast you´ll start exploring Krakow´s top attractions. The walking route has been carefully planned so you can take in all of Krakow’s main sights, including the main market square – Rynek Glówny – as well as Wawel Cathedral and Wawel Castle. Just bear in mind you’ll need to pay the entrance fees if you’d like to get a closer look at any of these.

This morning we’ll leave the city of Krakow and country of Poland behind and head into the heart of the High Tatra Mountains, the biggest and oldest national park in Slovakia.

This is an area of phenomenal natural beauty, so you can expect to see frozen lakes and waterfalls, snow-covered valleys and forests, craggy peaks and ridges.

The journey takes just over two and a half hours, and you’ll cross the Polish-Slovak border to head into the heart of the High Tatras.

Our destination is Smokovec, the oldest and most popular villages in the High Tatras. After checking in there’ll be an orientation walk around the hotel, so you can get your bearings.

Meals included

Hotel Villa Siesta (or similar)

After breakfast you´ll walk to the centre of Stary Smokovec, the oldest settlement in the High Tatras. From here you’ll take a cable car to Hrebienok (1285m). You’ll have a chance to admire stunning ice sculptures created by artists from all over the world, before taking an easy 20-minute walk to Rainerova chata, the oldest mountain hut in the Tatras.

After the walk you’ll return back to Stary Smokovec and drive to the nearby village of Zdiar, a typical Goral village full of traditional wooden houses and barns. You’ll learn about the local way of life before taking a horse and carriage ride in the forest. It all finishes with an unforgettable Slovak-style barbecue on an open fire.

Next you´ll transfer to the spa village of Tatranska Kotlina, the starting point of our 30-minute walk to the Belianska cave. The guided tour of the cave takes around an hour and is a magical experience that’s often considered one of the highlights.
