Welcome to Smokovec, the oldest settlement in the High Tatras. It’s known for its fantastic skiing and hiking opportunities, which you can sample while you’re here. After checking in at your hotel there’ll be an orientation walk and you can settle in before tomorrow’s activities begin.

This morning we’ll take a private bus to the nearby village of Zdiar. After a quick lesson on how to use snowshoes, we’ll head off and follow the modest ridge of Spisska Magura.
This relatively easy terrain is the perfect place to try snowshoeing, following routes that were used by local smugglers to bring goods from Poland to Slovakia. The views of the Belianske Tatras’ white peaks are simply stunning.

Today we’ll jump on a mountain tram and head to Strbske Pleso, Slovakia´s highest village and one of the most popular winter resorts in the Slovakian Tatras. It’s home to the mountain lake of Strbske Pleso, which is a popular destination for cross-country skiers. You’ll explore this spectacular terrain during your guided lesson.
Beginners can enjoy the area around the lake, and more experienced skiers can enhance their skills in hillier terrain, taking in beautiful views of the Tatras.
Lunch is at a lovely, traditional Slovak restaurant called “Koliba”, where you can sample some local delicacies.

After breakfast you´ll walk to the heart of the Stary "Old" Smokovec. From here you’ll take a cable car to Hrebienok (1,285m). You’ll have a chance to admire stunning ice sculptures created by artists from all over the world, before taking an easy 20-minute walk to Rainerova chata, the oldest mountain hut in the Tatras.
After the walk you’ll return back to Stary Smokovec and drive to the nearby village of Zdiar, a typical Goral village full of traditional wooden houses and barns. You’ll learn about the local way of life before taking a horse and carriage ride in the forest. It all finishes with an unforgettable Slovak-style barbecue on an open fire.

The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of your destination, within walking distance to restaurants. All rooms are comfortably furnished with private facilities. There is also a restaurant and free Wi-Fi access.
If you need to arrive or leave on a different date, please contact us and we’d be more than happy to arrange extra pre or post tour accommodation for you.
We recommend you pack as light as possible, with a suitcase or backpack that is easy to lift and carry, because you will be expected to carry your own bag during travelling, and take it to your hotel room etc.
You will also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc for day trips. Below you will find a recommended packing list. It is by no means exhaustive, so if you’re in any doubt, please contact us.
This trip is accompanied by one of our local group leaders. All the organisation, including transfers and activities, is managed by your leader. Our experienced guides are some of the best in the country; they will be there to assist you with anything you might need, giving you advice and organising your activities on a daily basis so you can fully focus on one thing – enjoying Slovakia´s spectacular mountain scenery!
