Map & itinerary

Welcome to Prague, capital of the Czech Republic.

You will be met by your tour leader at the hotel for an introductory briefing. Depending on your arrival time, the rest of the day is free to explore Prague’s attractions.

Prague is a fascinating city, with lots to do. We recommend a couple of extra nights here to make the most of your time. If you want us to find you a well-located, family-friendly hotel, just let us know.

Accommodation: Hotel Lunik (or similar)

Today you’ll enjoy sightseeing in Prague, considered to be one of the prettiest towns in the world. Your local guide will walk you around the historic centre, set to the backdrop of Prague Castle – the largest castle complex in the world.

Follow in the footsteps of Czech kings to Charles Bridge, and walk through the narrow streets, medieval squares and dark passages, to the Old Town Square. Here you’ll see the Orloj astronomical clock.

Late evening, you’ll head to the station to catch the sleeper train to Poprad in the heart of the High Tatras.

A sleeper train is a unique experience for the kids, and a fun way to travel to your next country – Slovakia.

Meals included: Breakfast
Accommodation: Sleeper train

After an early arrival in Poprad, you’ll transfer to your hotel for breakfast and fuel up for your first walking adventure.

It’s up into the hills with a cable car ride to Skalnate Pleso (1,751m), home to a crystal-clear mountain lake. Located in the foothills of Lomnicky peak at 2634m., there’ll be time to soak up the views.

From here you’ll hike along a popular family trail, exploring mountain huts and cascading waterfalls on a scenic trek that has views over the villages and settlements below.

Zamkovskeho hut offers delicious homemade food, and Rainerova hut, the oldest in the Tatras is a pleasant stop on the way to the cascading Cold creek waterfalls.

Your walk the continues via Hrebienok, a cross road for many fantastic tourist trails, and ends in Stary Smokovec, the oldest village in the Tatras, from where we´ll take a mountain tram back to Tatranska Lomnica.

Meals included
Breakfast, packed lunch

Accommodation
Tatranska Lomnica, Penzion Paula (or similar)

A short drive takes you to one of the biggest castles in Central-Eastern Europe, 12th-Century Spissky Castle. A local guide will walk you through the site’s interesting stories, in a way that’ll bring them to life for the kids.

You’ll take a tour of medieval Levoca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the highest wooden altar in the world, before cycling to the ancient town of Kezmarok with a superb view of the peaks of the High Tatras.

An early evening transfer takes you back to the hotel, for a well-earned dinner and glass of wine.

Meals included: Breakfast
Accommodation: Penzion Paula (or similar)

This morning we start with a tram journey through the Tatras’ most famous settlements to Strbske Pleso (1,347m), Slovakia´s highest village and home to a beautiful glacial lake.

The village is one of the most popular destinations in Slovakia as it provides many kilometres of hiking routes and the chance to admire the lake itself. From here, we’ll follow a trail to Skok waterfall. The hiking trail is waymarked and leads you along a road to the peace and tranquillity of the pine-forested Mlynicka Valley.

From here, a stony path squeezes you through hairpin turns to the foot of the waterfall, which drops 25m from the rocky ledge above. It’s easy to see why these are one of the High Tatras’ top ten attractions – the cascading waters are beautiful as they tumble down the mountain into the pools below.

With a chance to see rare Tatra chamois on rocky peaks around you, this is the perfect spot for our packed lunch. After a well-deserved break we´ll hike back to Strbske Pleso and return back to Tatranska Lomnica by the mountain tram.

After breakfast we´ll drive to the national park of Pieniny, which forms a natural border with Poland. We´ll learn about the most famous monk, Cyprian, the inventor of hang-glider and author of the oldest pharmacy in Central Europe.

The Pieninsky national park is also home to Dunajec Gorge. At 23km it´s one of the longest gorges in Europe. A spectacular way to see it is from the water, so take to your rafts, grab an oar and head along the river surrounded by towering, forested peaks.

After our rafting adventure it´s time for lunch in traditional restaurant. Here we´ll meet our driver, who will drive us to our final destination, the ancient town of Krakow and the former capital of Poland.

GENERAL FEEDBACK - YOUR OVERALL EXPERIENCE
Our overall experience was outstanding from start to finish!

WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR TRIP?
Every city that we visited and every activity that we participated in was truly unique and could be considered a highlight of the trip. Our family is very active and loves the outdoors so our time in the Tatra Mountains stands out as THE highlight.

ACCOMMODATION
Overall the accommodations were excellent with ‘Paula’ being our #1 absolute favorite. The accommodations in Krakow were convenient and the breakfast food was very good. At the same time, the neighborhood was a bit rundown and the staff was a bit unfriendly.

TRANSPORT
Outstanding in every way.

MEALS
Fabulous. We all gained a few pounds last week!

PLEASE RATE YOUR LEADER
A+ Exceptional in every way.

WERE YOU DISAPPOINTED WITH ANY PART OF YOUR TRIP?
Not at all. The trip was magical!

WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU GIVE OTHER TRAVELLERS BOOKING THIS HOLIDAY?
Be in shape and be ready to do a lot of walking!
Be sure to pack a very comfortable pair of walking shoes and a rain poncho.

WHAT WAS YOUR OVERALL EXPERIENCE?
it was a superb experience.

WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR TRIP?
Rafting and riverside cycle. Overnight train (children loved that). Mountain hike in the beautiful Tatras. Our mountain village was very pretty and lively. Prague and Krakow were both spectacular.

ACCOMMODATION
All 3 hotels were perfectly located and spotlessly clean.

TRANSPORT
Very efficient with courteous drivers. The air-con could have been more effective on the 2 hour transfer to Krakow.

MEALS
I think we just had breakfasts included? These were all highly satisfactory, especially the breakfast provided by the Krakow hotel.

PLEASE RATE YOUR LEADER
lice in Prague gave us a very thorough tour and was very pleasant and keen that nothing should spoil our day. She was clearly passionately interested in the history and culture of her city.
Linda was absolutely superb, highly efficient, always three steps ahead in terms of organizing everything and with an in-depth knowledge of the mountains. Excellent English and also sociable and fun to be around.

WERE YOU DISAPPOINTED WITH ANY PART OF YOUR TRIP?
No.

WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU GIVE OTHER TRAVELLERS BOOKING THIS HOLIDAY?
The days were very busy and packed with activity so it’s a long day on your feet. Our two girls, aged 7 and 8, are very fit and sporty so they managed it but I think a younger child or a less sporty child would struggle to last the day. However there is always an option to leave the group to take a break, and we did that once or twice.
