About
Slovakia contains numerous examples of wooden churches in the Slovak Carpathian mountain area, expressing perfect harmony of the human soul with nature and possessing extraordinary worldwide value. Their number include the Gothic Roman Catholic churches in Hervartov and Tvrdošín, built under law issued by Emperor Leopold I at the end of the 17th century, and the Evangelical churches in Kežmarok, Leštiny and Hronsek. The churches of the Eastern rite in Bodružal, Ladomirová and RuskáBystrá in the east of the country were originally of Greek Catholic and later Orthodox denomination, their interior decorative design dominated by unique Carpathian icons.
