About
Situated in Demänovská valley below the northern slopes of the low tatra mountains (Nízke Tatry) is Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa, the second largest cave of its kind in Slovakia. It has been open to the public since the 1880's, though first reference to it is from 1299.
Entrance to the cave is gained ninety metres above the valley floor, following a relatively steep winding path, with information about this natural spectacle found en-route. Especially charming is its lower part called the "Freezer" with its icicles and frozen waterfalls. The cave is also home to ten species of bat.
The guided tour through the cave is approximately 850 metres and viewing takes 45 minutes.
