Embark on a remarkable journey through Slovakia's High Tatras National Park with our hotel-to-hotel walking adventure. Over seven days, you'll discover the stunning beauty of the Carpathian Mountains as we explore some of the most attractive walking routes in the High Tatras.

We'll explore deep valleys, mountain lakes, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking alpine meadows. We'll stay in the most popular Tatras spa villages, including Tatranska Lomnica, Stary Smokovec, and Strbske Pleso, the highest village in Slovakia.

But it's not just the scenery and culture that make this journey unique. The High Tatras is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including chamois herds, marmots, eagles, bears, wolves, and lynx.

Map & itinerary

Welcome to Tatranska Lomnica, a charming village nestled in the shadow of the majestic Lomnicky Peak in the High Tatras. This picturesque mountain village is perfect for those seeking a walking holiday, with plenty of trails starting right from the village.

After check-in, take in the fresh mountain air as you explore the stunning natural surroundings. When it's time to refuel, we head to one of the many traditional restaurants and sample delicious local cuisine in the evening. You'll also be delighted by the typical Tatras architecture that gives the town its unique character.

Accommodation: Penzion Jesensky (or similar)

After breakfast, we´ll take a public bus (payable locally) to Tatranska Kotlina, the official start of today’s route across the Valley of the Seven Springs. This easternmost valley on the southern side of the Tatras is considered the gateway to the Belianske Tatras.

Your route begins in dense forest near to the famous Belianska Cave. The cave is 3,829m long and is a theatre of fascinating rock formations, chambers, halls and waterfalls. Continuing to Plesnivec Hut, you can take a rest, re-fuel and enjoy the forested surrounds, before arriving at the second hut Zelene Pleso, and a glacial lake overlooking the majestic peaks of the Belianske Tatras.

Located in the middle of nowhere, mountain huts are a great way to experience the majesty, solitude and might of the mountains, and usually have a story to tell, serving simple but delicious food.

Today´s trek ends in Biela Voda, from where you take transfer back to Tatranska Lomnica.

Your hike will take you via Rainerova, the oldest hut in the mountains, so something very special to visit. It dates back to 1863 and today is a small stone building serving drinks and snacks. Zamkovskeho hut is a quaint wooden chalet offering the perfect, shady resting spot. Serving delicious local food this is the perfect place for today´s lunch.

Your route will also take you via Cold Creek Waterfalls, where you can pause and soak up the al fresco atmosphere. The waterfalls start where the Great Cold Creek meets the Small Cold Creek and tumble their way over rocks and boulders, and through pine forests; walking trails take you alongside the fizzy cascades.

You then continue to Hrebienok, and descend to Smokovec, the oldest village in the Tatras, and finally to Novy Smokovec, our home for tonight.

Today’s trek starts with a tram journey through the Tatras’ most famous settlements to Strbske Pleso (1,347m), Slovakia´s highest village and home to a beautiful glacial lake. The village is one of the most popular destinations in Slovakia as it provides many kilometres of hiking routes and the chance to admire the lake itself.

From here, follow a trail to the crystal-clear mountain lake of Popradske Pleso, one of the biggest in the Tatra range. Enjoy lunch on the terrace of the mountain hotel, and visit the symbolic cemetery which is dedicated to the victims of the Tatra mountains. In the afternoon, descend back to Strbske Pleso and check in to our new hotel.

Walking: 6hrs, 15km/9,3mi, 221m up, 640m down.

Accommodation: Hotel Toliar (or similar)
Meals included: Breakfast, packed lunch.

From here, you’ll follow a trail to Skok waterfall. The hiking trail is waymarked and leads you along a road to the peace and tranquillity of the pine-forested Mlynicka Valley. From here, a stony path squeezes you through hairpin turns to the foot of the waterfall, which drops 25m from the rocky ledge above. It’s easy to see why these are among the High Tatras’ top ten attractions – the cascading waters are beautiful as they tumble down the mountain into the pools below. This is the perfect place for your picnic lunch, maybe dipping your feet into the refreshing water before returning to Strbske Pleso and then by tram to your hotel in Smokovec.
